LIFT has begun!

Posted on: March 25th, 2015 by developer red chalk No Comments

With more athletes this month than ever before, the LIFT program is eager and ready to set new goals! The LIFT athletes have been working hard at each and every workout, plus enjoying some well-deserved time relaxing their body and mind with our yoga sessions.

Our athletes love progressing and reaching new fitness goals, and we love sharing this journey with them. We emphasize the importance of exercise beyond the benefits of improved body composition. Getting your heart rate up for at least 30 minutes each day over a consistent period of time will help decrease stress, improve mood, quality of sleep, decrease cholesterol and increase ‘healthy cholesterol’ which all helps in the prevention of several sometimes fatal diseases. But, yes of course we love turning bodies into fat burning machines!

We’re ecstatic to have joined with Studio Bamboo Institute of Yoga in order to help us create a peaceful night to stretch and relax. This is a great time for our athletes to further reward their accomplishments with winding down and coming to peace with fully relaxing their mind and body. These yoga sessions are a different type of challenge both mentally and physically, and ensures everyone is recovering properly. We are also proud to have The International Culinary School and The Therapy Network on our team as well! The International Culinary School is helping us find healthy and simple ways to cook according to our goals and will be sharing these cooking techniques with us very soon for our nutrition-focused portion! The Therapy Network (TTN) is a team of motivational physical therapists educating us all about the art of motion and prevention of injury. With all the various skills and specialties they have to offer, we are more than ready to learn and excel with their team!

Give back. Make a difference.

Are you looking to give back to our community? The LIFT program is a great start. If you can dedicate 2 hours of your time per week towards helping others, we have a important way to fill that time. If Tuesday nights and/or Saturday afternoons don’t work well for you, we have several options for you to help out elsewhere as I’ll explain later. And don’t worry, you don’t have to be a fitness expert, you just have to have the drive to encourage others into becoming healthier, more motivated individuals. All you need to do is sign-up on our Community Fitness Foundation website and we’ll get you started.

We conduct fun fitness and/or nutrition sessions each session and encourage you to join in and further encourage our athletes with us.

The LIFT team always has a great time discussing and sharing new ways to better implement fitness and nutrition into their lives.

If you are not able to attend the LIFT sessions, other options include collecting lightly worn athletic shoes to donate to our Lifting Soles drive. These shoes are passed on to our athletes to help them better adjust to the fitness activities we conduct. Any shoes we can’t fit with our athletes we donate overtime.

Also, if you are involved in any health-related course work or are interested in what Jim White Fitness has to offer, don’t forget we also offer internship programs through the summer months.

Lifting Soles Shoe Drive

As the seasons change, so do our athletic shoes. We grab the bright running shoes for the 5Ks we plan to run in and sport all shades of Nikes throughout the warmer seasons. Instead of collecting those 50 shades of shoes you’ll wear once or twice… bring your lightly worn athletic shoes to a Jim White Fitness & Nutrition Studios location. Beginning January 20th until March 1st, every year, we’ll have blue bins in all three studios set for collecting shoes for our Lifting Soles Shoe Drive.

The Lifting Soles Shoe Drive allows us to help those less fortunate to be fully prepared for their fitness journey through our LIFT program.

Many of our LIFT athletes are unable to afford shoes to exercise in. Just by donating a pair of shoes you can help one of our athletes achieve their fitness goals. We know that without the appropriate shoes our athletes would be unable to complete the exercises correctly but the proper shoe also gives them far greater confidence to do so. Any running, tennis or cross-training shoes are accepted.

And don’t worry, if you’re not ready to part with those shoes just yet, you can bring them in anytime of the year. We are always collecting shoes.
